The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is one of the most popular year-round attractions in Northeast Ohio.

In 2021, the zoo commissioned 2 Soaring Eagle ziplines as an exciting new attraction for its visitors. Kool Replay was chosen as the zoo’s partner to produce and distribute media content for the new ride.

Challenges

Capturing entire experience and sales automation

From the start, it was important that the entire guest experience be captured, including key highlight moments such as when the zipline hits the break at full speed.

The video system also needed to enable online sales since there was not a point-of-sales station available anywhere near the ride.

Solution

Special high-frame-rate camera and automated QR code ticket printer

Kool Replay installed a total of 6 cameras, including 4 on-ride cameras to capture a rider’s best moments from multiple viewpoints.

The video sequence includes close-up shots of the moment when the break hits, filmed in slow motion with a special high-frame-rate camera set at 240 fps.

In addition, Kool Replay installed one automated QR code ticket printer at each ride’s loading/unloading station.

Guests exiting the ride can scan a QR code that allows them to immediately preview and purchase their personalized video and photo package.

Results

Maximizing the new attraction yield

In less than one operating season, the system had produced several thousand videos, maximizing the new attraction’s yield while creating exciting, highly shareable content.
