Six Flags – La Ronde

The project

Six Flags – La Ronde

Located in Montréal, Canada, La Ronde is a Six Flags-owned amusement park featuring more than 40 rides and attractions.
In 2021, while in the middle of the COVID pandemic, La Ronde and Kool Replay teamed up to enhance guest experience while generating new revenue for the park.
The initial deployment phase involved installing automated video and photo solutions on a selection of 5 attractions ranging from family to extreme thrill rides.

Challenges

Short window of time and labour shortage

Kool Replay’s system had to be deployed, tested and approved during the short window of time between the end of the winter and the start of the park’s operations in May.
At the time, Montréal was facing a labour shortage. System operations, from capture to end-user delivery, had to be 100% automated and not require any staff.

Solutions

Design of new automated content distribution terminals

Kool Replay successfully deployed its automated photo and video system on 5 rides including the park’s largest roller coaster, the iconic Goliath.
Several cameras including super high frame rate devices were installed along the rides to capture guest experience from multiple viewpoints.
New automated content distribution terminals were designed to provide guests with a QR code immediately after the ride. Guests could use that code to purchase their content right away or via the online store.

Results

System reliability exceeded 99.9% throughout the season.

More than 120,000 videos were delivered in the first year, establishing a new success benchmark for automated amusement park videos.
The system now generates important steady income while also providing a lot of social media visibility for the attraction.
